This book was a lot darker than I was expecting, but it was also so very sweet. My heart absolutely broke for Seth. This gentle, shy, damaged man was so lost, but doing the best he could with the shitty hand he'd been dealt in life. Malcolm was exactly the kind of person he desperately needed to help him find his way and begin to heal from his traumatic past. I found myself just as angry and full of sorrow as Malcolm was when poor Seth was recalling all of the terrible things that had happened to him before escaping his past life, and to see him get the help he needed and the counseling and love he deserved felt like such a relief. I was torn about whether I thought his acceptance of their daddy/boy dynamic felt unrealistic, though. On one hand, Seth knew that he trusted Malcolm and seemed to lean on that trust as he agreed to be his boy. On the other hand, it felt like even though the kink aspect of Malcolm's brand of daddying was very mild, I felt like Seth accepted it a little too easily given how soon the offer was posed to him. He seemed to fall into the roll with almost no thought, which was sweet to see, but it just didn't feel natural that he would agree so quickly. I did really enjoy this story, and I'm looking forward to see how their relationship will blossom in the next book.
Please check TW before reading! There are some pretty graphic recollections of brutal religious trauma.
