Oh my gosh, this book really is the fairytale for adults! It was simplistic in the best way, but still filled with so many life lessons, nuance, and it was a little bit more complex than the childhood fairytale. It also had a few funny moments. There were many aspects of the story that came together in the end it felt like one big riddle or puzzle. This was also my first time, reading a fantasy written by a male author and it was so different but equally as good and enjoyable. At the end of the book, I felt so happy and sad at the same time. SPOILERS: Specific aspects of the book I enjoyed was how the dead people were interpreted as a breeze going by or a ‘caw’ of a bird. I liked watching Tristan grow up into a good man with a good moral conscience and making amends for his past discretions. The star learning the capacity for forgiveness. How greed can spoil everything. I loved how the curse from the witch in red backfired when she asked Semele whom she had seen. The ending was also very realistic, making it that much better but a little heart wrenching. I will definitely be reading more from this author!
