King of Battle and Blood by Scarlett St. Clair

5.0

Loved It!

Honestly, I've read almost 200 books this year 2022, and this is at the top of my list for most loved.

I don't think the cover or blurb does the book justice, tbh.

What I Loved:
•St Clair’s writing style is perfection.
•I enjoyed watching our protagonist learn and evolve. She starts off a bit unlikable but, by the end, I very much liked her character.
•Adrian is freaking awesome. Is there truly anything not to love about him?
•I love where the story is headed!

Disliked:
•It was a tad predictable.

***SPOILER BELOW***

-It is pretty obvious early on that Isolde is or was a witch as well as Adiran knowing who she once was. I think making her fear of fire + Adrian’s familiarity more subtle would have been better. Now, the author may have been intentional in the way it was written; we guess what's happening but Isolde has no idea. But I think this is best suited for horror versus fantasy. It's a personal preference, though.
