Empire of the Summer Moon: Quanah Parker and the Rise and Fall of the Comanches, the Most Powerful Indian Tribe in American History by S.C. Gwynne

4.0

A very well written and intelligent book. It walks a very well balanced line and does not pull it's punches when describing the actions of both sides - Indian tribes on one hand and the encroaching settlers and their government on the other. Neither comes out in a good light.

The story of the Cynthia Ann Parker, captured by the Commanche as a young girl, and her son, the Commanche chief, Quannah, are truly remarkable.

An exhilarating read and a wonderfully researched and skilfully told story.
