The Astonishing Color of After
by Emily X.R. Pan
I only read 60 pages so far, so it's not fair to rate this.
Thoughts so far:
I really, really, really wanted to like this, but I need to put this aside for now.
I DNF'd this, because I have a lot of other books that I need to read at the moment, and the pacing of this book is incredibly slow. I am not warming up to the main character, nor her father, and the overkill with the color metaphors is getting to me. I feel like I'm trudging through this.
I am definitely older than the target audience so that's probably one reason why I'm not eager to continue. Also, the romance with Axel seems like an afterthought, like something Pan just put in there to make sure there's a love interest. I don't like reading romance in general, and especially not romance that just pops up here and there in the background.
I like to support Asian and female authors (go WOC in writing!), as well as authors that tackle tough topics, so I would definitely be interested in another book by Pan, but it would probably have to be one aimed at adults, instead of YA.
Have to say though - beautiful cover!
