I’m really impressed with this series so far, and I can see why this book in particular is much loved.

Normally I’m ambivalent about the “we can’t be together for reasons” conflict, but OMG talk about high stakes! The way Judd had iron control over his emotions, but we knew it would be combustible when he let go (but also the potential consequences for letting go)? That was a type of angst I was not prepared for (but *loved*). I was so invested in Judd and Brenna’s relationship, and for a moment there I wasn’t sure how they would get past the major obstacle. But it was so satisfying to see the lightness between them at the end, it felt so well-earned. 🥹

Outside of their relationship, I also found everything happening with the Psy Council really intriguing. The storytelling in this book felt very focussed and intentional. I cannot wait to find out where the overarching plot goes!
