It's probably not fair to judge a book based on what I wanted it to be. I wanted it to be a study of the people of Polynesia, their history and culture, their stories. It is a book about the European explorers who "found" various islands, the scientists who studied DNA, the researchers who analyzed genetic traits, the theories laid out by and proved or disproved by non-Polynesians. For me, it was a disappointment.

With a little reorganization and a lot of cutting, it could be the book that I wanted it to be. But, again, I'm probably being unfair.
