The Travels of A T-Shirt in the Global Economy: An Economist Examines the Markets, Power, and Politics of World Trade by Pietra Rivoli

4.0

This book is really informative. Not only does it tell the story of how a t-shirt is made from cotton seed in Texas to its castoff recycling in Africa, it also talks about how economy and globalization, specifically politics; affects the world market for apparel.

It talks about how China, the leading manufacturer for apparel is rising very high, and how they overwhelm our exports, how africa takes our castoff and sell them again, how Bangladesh and India compete with China and so forth.

The author also comments about each of the major players in this apparel market, each government are usually corrupt, don't give their citizen voices, or have double standards in their dealings.

After reading this book, you won't see a free tshirt you get from events the same way again!

The con about this book is that sometimes the book gets really dry, and the pacing slow, however, the information is interesting to read if you are interested about textiles and apparel and into fashion design as this will show you the behind-the-scenes about those outsourcing that is common nowadays.
