Dare to Disappoint: Growing Up in Turkey
by Özge Samanci
Lots of information, little clarification. Maybe I'd love this if I already understood modern Turkish history. Samanci seemed to be saying interesting stuff, but I felt like I wasn't getting the whole jokes or critiques. Overall, the focus is clearly on the abundance of art, not on the pursuit of a coherent story. After nearly two hundred pages, the story wraps up abruptly in about two and a half. Give it a try if you like late 21st century Turkish childhoods (and apparently the TV show Dallas).
