If you're looking for a mystery with substance this is it. I was impressive how eloquently he was able to show the pressures that a black sherif has in small town southern America. This was a police procedural which I really enjoyed. This is not the norm for me so that speaks volumes about the story telling. The characters where so fleshed out and they felt like people you know. I also enjoyed the writing style. The pacing was a bit off in the middle but other than that it was a great read. A tough one but great.
