The Flamingo by Guojing

The artwork in this is outstanding.  I want to blow some of the pictures up on my walls and use them as pictures or background.  She has some sunset artwork that feels almost like the real thing.  They are full of pinks, orange sherbets, mauve's, and all the colors in a beautiful sunset.   Stunning, truly.

I love the Flamingo in this story.  It is so cute and then it is so majestic.   This is a wordless story and the author felt there needed to be a bit of dialogue for flashbacks, but I think it came across just find.  The way she did gray and then color made it easy to tell.  Maybe a kid needs it, but I feel the author doubted herself and the dialogue wasn't needed.  It came across what the kid was asking.

The story is a grandchild flying to her grandmothers to spend some time with her.  Her grandmother as a kid raised a flamingo she found as an egg and tells her granddaughter the story.  It sets the granddaughters imagination on fire.

I think my niece would love this story.  I'm going to see if I can get her to read it.  This reminds me of my niece.

I love they are eating Bao's and making special bird dumplings.  Great details.
