The Analects by Confucius
4.0

I have heard a lot about Confucius, and he came up a lot for me this year in class (discuss Chinese education, writing instruction, and culture). I was surprised by the Analects. It was not what I expected. D.C. Lau in the introduction talked about how Confucius seemed to have a genuine love for life, and I think that is true. Some of his sayings are genuinely funny or have a love of life. It is also an interesting look into a political ideology, a kind of you go low we go high type of mentality. I am not sure I agree with the essence of the philosophy, which is preserving the rituals and cultivating morality, but I think Confucius still offers wisdom to his readers.
