Now we're already at the conlusion of the Dark Elf Trilogy! I must say that I am very happy that I decided to start reading these books and thoroughly enjoyed them.

Sojourn starts with Drizzt leaving the dark depths of the Underdark and with that the story also very fittingly gets a considerably lighter tone.

There was a lot to love here. Some really heartfelt slice of life stories for example as Drizzt discoveres that the surface world does indeed have seasons which was a completely unknown concept to him!

The action continues to be very good and the Worldbuilding as we meet and learn many different races and creatures of the Forgotten Realms continues to shine. His journey to becoming a ranger is also very insightful and moving.

Sadly I do have one major gripe though and that is the character of the bounty hunter Roddy McGristle. This guy was just so frustrating and annoying. I do realize that this is most likely done on purpose to just reinforce the immense (and justified) bias against Drow. But man it just felt so repetitive and boring. And because we did spend a considerable amount of time with this character, that sadly puts a major dent into my enjoyment of this book (and prevents a higher rating).

But yeah if you put this aside what is left is a beautifully written story about an outcast trying to find his way in the world with the odds just being heavily stacked against him.

I will take a break from these books but I certainly intend to follow this up with the Icewind Dale Trilogy eventually.
