It was definitely unsurprising to look this book afterwards and see that the author was inspired by The Secret History. The comparison is also interesting because of how they both put you in the head of the narrator but approached in different ways, in this case in making the reader unsure of what’s real just as much as the narrator.  I have mixed feelings on how circular the narration felt at times, but it also did make a certain amount of sense with her situation. I think the ending got the balance of a big reveal right where you’re shocked at some of the things revealed but at the same time it feels like a natural escalation instead of an unearned twist.
