I don’t understand why this story is split into two parts. I think it’s highly unnecessary when it could’ve just been edited down a bit into one so that it’s a more cohesive tale. As such, it’s hard to remember what happened when since the story is literally bridged across two novellas that could’ve just been a single novel.

I’m salty about that of you couldn’t tell.

Elodie is a bit of a wet blanket throughout because of her perpetual pity party which is explained and makes sense but is still a lot to stomach when reading.
Beckett is a bit too good to be true on the other hand right down to his forever mentioned southern drawl.

The family dynamics in this are well done for the most part, as was the friendship between Ellie and Riss.

The one main difference between the two parts is that Part One is a bit more slower paced than Part Two, or at least it felt that way. But I think they both end up with the same rating since the story takes place across both parts.
