Beyond the Wand: The Magic & Mayhem of Growing Up a Wizard by Tom Felton

adventurous challenging emotional funny hopeful informative inspiring reflective medium-paced

5.0

The golden trio has historically been the three we have learned the most about and seen the most interviews with; but it was so interesting to hear about Tom Felton. From his birth up until now - he covers everything from what got him into acting, his Potter days, run-ins with the law (a very hysterical story), life after Potter and his mental health struggles. I truly had no idea that he had ever gone to rehab- or that he had a drinking issue.

I flipped back and forth between his audiobook (read by him, which made it even better), and the book. To hear him talk about the Potter actors that have passed was equal parts touching and heartbreaking. I appreciated the way he handled moments where he, in his words, screwed up. He doesn't try to skew it to make him look better - he walks you through the whole ordeal, sharing where his head was during those moments and how he made it through to the other side. It was a solid reminder that actors are humans too, with real world issues.

I have always been a fan of Tom Felton, but to hear him tell his own story in his own words, in a very unfiltered 'this is me' way - I have a whole new respect for him. If you haven't read it yet, it is one I strongly recommend - I laughed, I teared up, and am rooting for him in all his future endeavors.
