The Ship by Antonia Honeywell

Disclaimer - I got the book through a Goodreads giveaway.

I really wanted to like this book. Dystopian novel set in London? Sold. However, the book fell flat for me. It had interesting ideas like how the world got to be the way it is but the writing never gripped me. Maybe it was that Lalla was unbearably annoying as a narrator to the point where I questioned why I picked up a YA book. There was also so much potential in exploring the cult-like society on board the Ship but the intrigues never went anywhere.

Ultimately The Ship did not live up to my expectations. Perhaps it has been misrepresented by the publishers, "The Hunger Games meets the London riots on board Noah's Ark" it is not, I wanted conflict but there was none. There are better books out there in the genre. Beth Revis' Across the Universe for one used the enclosed ship setting with more tension and panache.
