This is probably one of the darkest, if not the darkest, book I have read. It was twisted and dark and challenging. I couldn't help but root for Sybil despite knowing she was crazy, needed a lot of help and was doing messed up things. The ending kind of made me sad as well. I am interested to know how this links to Haunting Adeline. I found out after starting Haunting Adeline that the author suggests to read this first which did leave me putting that on pause to pick this up and though I am not disappointed by the book, I will say I am excited to now get back to Haunting Adeline. Overall this was a quick, dark and twisted read with such great atmosphere and tension and the setting just fitted perfectly, but I will have to see if it was worth it.
Graphic: Death, Gore, Rape, Sexual assault, Sexual content, Sexual violence, Torture, Violence, Blood, Murder, Injury/Injury detail
Moderate: Child abuse, Domestic abuse, Grief, Death of parent
This is dark and I would suggest anyone with triggers looks the specific triggers up because the content warnings don't do it justice to how dark it is.
