Very interesting read about when the US Government kept moving the natives off their land as they were purchasing territories and creating mores states. Told through the three very different, yet similar women and all facing tough decisions as rights are being threatened for some, taken from others and given to those who only continue to gain. I loved how the author used the three different women to weave this story about some of the terrible things that happened in history and how it affected them based on their standing and background. Samantha Lockwood is bound to go against her fathers wishes and marry for love not convenience or family status. Day Sets has had a child with a white man and is quickly learning that the ways of the white man and his government are not providing as promised. Harriet Robinson born into slavery is getting insight into what freedom looks like when she is sent north as a "servant". I learned a lot about history of the terrible things the government promised and did to obtain land in the northern territories and continue to grow the states without regard to those who already resided on this land.
