Everywhere I Look by Helen Garner

5.0

This collection of essays, diary entries and stories contains my all time favourite piece of writing on mothers and daughters. ‘Dreams of her real self’ is a masterpiece. It is a deeply moving tribute (I cried) to her mother. I’ve read a lot of HG over the years - including three books of hers this year - and I’m forever blown away by the depth of her writing and the beautiful spareness of her language choices. Read this book.
