Charlotte Mcconaghy has done it again. What a stunning, heartbreaking, atmospheric read this was!
The atmosphere, the characterisation, the twists and turns and oh my god, the ending. The heartbreak throughout, the way grief is explored in depth, the way the scene is painted, to make you feel like you are right there with them on that cold, lonely island. The lighthouse, the bunker, the boathouse, the beach and everywhere else. The wildlife and the relationship the family had with this wild place. Absolutely stunning.
Heartbroken with the ending, even though I suspected it was coming, I still hoped for something happier. I should have known better because this is what Mcconaghy does so well, even if I wished otherwise.
