Africa Is Not A Country: Breaking Stereotypes of Modern Africa by Dipo Faloyin

dark funny hopeful informative reflective medium-paced

4.25

I went in with wrong expectations but still enjoyed this book and learned a lot. It is very focused on the lasting effects of colonisation on the African continent - which is obviously worthwhile to reflect on and raised some very important things I hadn't considered. I will admit that I expected more insights into what Africa IS, based on the title and descriptions I read beforehand. The book gives some examples but mostly it (rightfully) mocks the perception from other countries but then doesn't follow up with what to replace these stereotypes with. But maybe that is the point of the book - that the continent is so big and diverse that is is impossible to paint an adequate picture within one short book.
