Picking up exactly where Book 2 left off, this next installment keeps the momentum going.  If you have taken some time between the books, you might feel that you need to re-read previous books to get caught up.  But Eva Chase is excellent at weaving in little reminders of who everyone is, the plotlines, and where they are going.  I didn't feel at all like I was confused or playing catch-up with what was going on.

The spice takes a back seat in this book and is very much a subplot.  If you are intimidated by the fact that this is why-choose, you can rest easy that the fantasy plot is very much the primary plot.  As far as why-choose fantasy romance series go, this would be a great place to get started if you want to dip your toe in.

One note - I was constantly impressed by the magic system and how balance was an underlying theme.  For every action taken, an equal and opposite sacrifice or reaction must be made.  I greatly appreciated that, it helped keep the magic system from being a trump card for every conflict.  And when the magic is pushed too hard, the sacrifices are high so consideration must be made or there will be consequences to actions.

And as usual, I am itching for the series's next (and final) book!

Thank you to Book Sirens and Eva Chase for a digital advanced reader copy.  All opinions are my own and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
