The Love Songs of W.E.B. Du Bois by Honorée Fanonne Jeffers

5.0

Re-read October 8, 2022

The fact that I was able to read 790 pages in a month while reading other books is a testament to how good this book is. Layers upon layers. And the re-read clarified so many things for me. The echos of generational trauma were louder and the story was still so enrapturing. Truly one of the greatest works of our time. I ugly cried. Lydia was so real to me. Ailey and Uncle Root forever.

This is phenomenal. It is difficult. It is a necessary read. The fabric of this story and the family is woven with love and care. So intricate and precise. Simply amazing. One of the best works of historical fiction I’ve ever read.
