A Well Trained Wife: My Escape from Christian Patriarchy by Tia Levings

dark informative sad tense

3.0

This one is hard to review because of the subject matter.  I liked listening to the memoir.  I liked Tia Levings' narration of it.  I did not 'like' the content.  As a reformed evangelical, it is infuriating and chilling to listen to the perverted ways men pick and choose which parts of the bible they like and mix them together to create this traumatizing religion.  I also did not like that some reformed ministries I respect were generally grouped in with men like Doug Wilson, who in my opinion is the worst of the worst.  All reformed theology does not teach, promote, or tolerate what Doug promotes and what Tia went through.  Even more chilling is that I know families like this.  Legalism, dominionism, and hyper-patriarchalism are a black cloud that hang over true Christianity and the freedom that is found in Christ.
