The Fall of the House of Thomas Weir by Andrew Neil Macleod
5.0
What starts as a gentlemanly jaunt into polite Edinburgh society quickly sidesteps into a hurtling race to save loved ones and the world.
The Fall of the House of Thomas Weir is packed full of historical gems including one of the main characters, Dr Samuel Johnson (yes, he of the dictionary fame). In fact, the entire novel reeks of historical knowhow and research.
I loved the interplay of historical figures and places with the dark paranormal elements of folklore and myth. Add to that the excitement of the chase, the multitude of gore and ick, and main characters who you desperately want to survive, and you’ll find it no surprise that I enjoyed this book so immensely.
My favourite character? Mrs Boswell. The things that poor woman has to put up with. I think she deserves a rest and a cup of tea.
All in all, a wonderful read. When’s the next book out, Andrew?
