Dying of Politeness by Geena Davis

3.0

There’s a lot I want to say about Dying of Politeness, but the main takeaway is I wish there was something more to it. I can’t really pinpoint what exactly that thing is, but I just didn’t connect with this book.

A few things that stood out to me:
-Not a fan of her imitation of her mother’s voice
-Her mother, by refraining from having difficult convos with Geena, led her to be so vulnerable and put into so many compromising positions
-My favorite thing about this book, which I wish we could have gotten so much more information about, is Geena’s foundation that is helping to further equal representation in media and film

This was an okay book, but left a lot to desire imo. In some ways, I think this would have been one memoir I would have preferred to read instead of listening to it - which is super rare for me.
