The House of My Mother by Shari Franke
3.5
dark emotional medium-paced

While this is an important story to tell, I feel like it was missing something. More time and reflection from the conclusion of the events in this memoir would have helped Shari tell a more hard-hitting story for the readers. I was really impressed by her writing style at the beginning of the book, but I felt like the quality of her writing and storytelling decreased throughout the book. It was still a powerful and emotional book, so much so that I kept having to take breaks from reading it even though the chapters were very short and the book as a whole is a quick read. I would have loved this perspective included in a nonfiction telling the whole story. The events of this book also took place near where I live and that felt a little trippy and eerie. I would like to read about less mormon religious trauma.
