Balthazar by Claudia Gray
5.0
After more than a month after the release of the paperback edition of "Balthazar", I finally bought a copy for myself the other day and was happy to learn the backstory and the latest adventure of one of the more memorable characters in the Evernight series. I rate this book a 4.5 out of 5 stars but have rounded it off to 5 (no halfsies).
While Lucas and Bianca, the main characters in the first four Evernight books, do make an appearance and are mentioned in this final book in the series, we learn more about Balthazar and his life before becoming a vampire, his painful transition, and his journey afterwards. Skye was interesting match for him, in that she held her own. Their love story wasn't mushy or forced, something I appreciated. Kudos to Charity redeeming herself as well. I seriously disliked her in the earlier books.
I enjoyed the book and it was an easy read, finishing it in one sitting. The only reason I decided to go with 4.5 stars over 5 is that I felt the ending left me hanging. Balthazar and Skye were obviously going to begin a new journey together but the fact that this book has been pronounced as the final one in the series leaves me wondering what else was in store for the twosome...
