Loved this book.

I've always had a proclivity towards really dark stories. Those were the first types of YA books that I really got into. But for some reason I stopped reading those books and turned towards fantasy for a long time. But after reading this book my love for these dark contemporaries has definitely come back.

This definitely reminded me of Sid and Nancy (which is a really interesting and sad story that was made into a film, which I recommend!). Gannon and Brooks are perfect for each other but they also are very bad for each other as well. They both NEED someone to love and someone to love them. Their addictions consume each other.

In the beginning, you want to love Brooks, I know I did. The bad boy, the one who seems like he really cares, like he'll be able to fix Gannon. And maybe he does fix her for a moment or two. But then you realize he's a paranoid, scared, boy that needs just as much help as Gannon does. While you become angry at Brooks and his choices I couldn't help but feel sorry for him and wish things could have ended differently.

That ending. I had to reread it a couple of times. In actuality, I was a bit disappointed in it. But that's just me wanting a semi-happy ending and I still have to remind myself that this rarely happens in these types of books.

I really enjoyed the author's writing and I'll definitely be reading more of her work. Overall, it was great read and I really do recommend it for anyone interested in darker contemporary stories.
