Gunmetal Magic by Ilona Andrews
4.0

Set in the world of Kate Daniels and centered around Andrea Nash, her best friend and former Knight of the Order. The storyline runs parallel to some other full novels and also novellas and the other stories are hinted at, which gives it a nice context. It also includes another novella, "Magic Gifts".

I liked the book, although it felt very short. Hard to tell with an ebook sometimes. I like Andrea's character and it was nice to get more of a backstory for her and for Raphael. Loved the setting of those ice monsters.

Magic Gifts centers around Kate and Curran again. Lots of fighting. Fight scenes is something that Ilona Andrews does well. And it is always nice to see the vampires getting their butts kicked.

I read a lot of these books, novellas and short stories back to back. Andrews does a lot of explaining of her world and how the shifts work, which feels a bit repetitive at times. But I don't hold that against her, as she needs to make it understandable to people that read the books out of line and don't know all the details.
