Anne Frank's Tales from the Secret Annexe by Anne Frank

3.0

This is a varied collection of stories & essays. Anne Frank shows a good understanding of human nature given that this work was written when she was no more than 15 years old, & writes in an engaging way. Her essay, 'Give', is an interesting, albeit short, reflection on wealth & poverty, & status & the lack of it, & is a plea to give to the poor (or beggars as Anne calls them). And her sentence from it on p.138 encapsulates my feeling at the moment:

'Why should one be nicer to a rich woman than to a poor one?'
