creolelitbelle 's review for:
The Bounty
by Janet Evanovich, Steve Hamilton
I liked this Fox and O'Hare story, but the writing didn't feel as much like Evanovich as the previous books in the series. Writing with Lee Goldberg still felt like her signature slightly wacky style from Plum and other books. The Big Kahuna, with Peter Evanovich, was more out of the box but still felt like Evanovich. This book was co-written with Steve Hamilton, and it felt off to me after having read everything else by Janet Evanovich.
Each time I picked up the book I read chunks of it, but I tended to have huge time gaps between picking it up. The different pieces of the adventure across Europe felt more episodic than connected as they should in a typical, single book within a series. I also expect more character development with Evanovich and especially development of character relationships (not only romantic) than is delivered this time. If Nick and Kate have further books, I'll still likely read them, although, I'll be hoping to feel more hooked than in The Bounty.
Despite my qualms with this story, the assamble of cast was entertaining. Nick's dad, Quinton, added a little extra spark to the narrative. Jake, Kate's dad, is always fun to add into the mix. I enjoyed Duckworth's and Professor Lewis's contributions as well. The book was good, action-packed, fast-paced, but it still somehow felt a bit rushed.
