Fahrenheit 451
by Ray Bradbury
"so! a book is a loaded gun in the house next door. burn it. take the shot from the weapon. breach man's mind...there was no longer need of firemen for the old purposes. they were given the new job, as custodians of our peace of mind, the focus of our understandable and rightful dread of being inferior; official censors, judges, and executors. thats you, montag and that's me."
swarming. burning. drowning.
"'they don't know that this is all one huge big blazing meteor that makes a pretty fire in space, but what some day it'll have to hit. they see only the blaze, pretty fire, as you saw it.'"
to what do you owe others? do you acknowledge the deep burning in your chest, suffocating on the smoke? what do you do when everything you know is turning to ash? the only color that separates the monotonous grey is the smouldering embers of a life destroyed. what's your place in the destruction?
"we need to be really bothered once in a while. how long is it since you were really bothered? about something important, about something real?"
knowledge is power. remembering is sacred. history cannot be erased. community is incendiary.
