As a fan of the Outlander series of books I’d been recommended ACOTAR for a while, but it wasn’t until I made a bargain with a friend of mine that if she read Outlander, I’d read ACOTAR, that I actually made reading these books a priority. I got the first on Audible in one of their many sales, and have quite literally devoured it in just over a week. Now I need to find book 2. I enjoyed this first foray into the ACOTAR universe, but being the first book there is a LOT of world building and info dumping exposition. It’s not unenjoyable, but it means the pace is a little skewed, and the characters don’t have a lot of room for development. I’ve been told that the later books only get better and better though, so I am definitely happy to carry on reading and see where the story goes. I will admit that I wasn’t super keen on the Hunger Games style final chapters, I felt like that kind of thing had been done to death, but as I say, I am happy to see what the next books in the series have to offer. A solid series starter, but I’m already expecting more of the next one.
