The Right Word: Roget and His Thesaurus by Jen Bryant
5.0
I honestly wish a book like this existed when I was younger. In elementary school we were encouraged to use the thesaurus but not taught much about what it was. We learned synonyms and antonyms, but not in a way that it relates to this resource. The thesaurus was just a big word for a big book in a big classroom. Seeing the human face behind the idea of synonyms, antonyms, and finding the “right word” adds another level to this that makes it much more interesting for children.
I really enjoyed this and could definitely see it in my future classroom, although students would have to be a little older to be able to comprehend everything going on in the book. It's a very interesting biography of someone who most people don't realize the influence of, despite using his work in everyday writing.
