Bardugo's calling seems to be as a screenwriter, not an author, dolling out MCU-worthy quips every page to distract from the repetitive plot beats. The book very quickly begins to feel stale, going in a loop of "oh no we're doomed!-yay, it worked out fine!-oh no! we're doomed!-Kaz fixed it, it's alright!" well past the 400 page mark.
Graphic: Gun violence, Racism, Slavery, Violence, Xenophobia, Trafficking, and Religious bigotry
Minor: Ableism, Child abuse, Emotional abuse, Mental illness, Panic attacks/disorders, Vomit, and Kidnapping
