Something Wonderful by Judith McNaught

3.0

Found myself revisiting this one over the weekend. It was better the second time 'round because I wasn't as stressed about OWs and how long the angsty stuff would last. Yet at the same time I find myself PO'd that the ending
Spoilergrovel is the very last thing except for an all too brief epilogue. I really needed some time with them together and on the same page for the HEA to be believed. I mean why does she accept his apology so quickly??? It's not realistic at all. Yeah, yeah, I know there's not a lot of realism in romance novels, but still! So 4 stars because that kinda quick ending always feels like a cop out.

Jordan and Alexandra. I find this author difficult. Sometimes the angst is too much for me, but when the heroine is strong and stands up for herself it cuts through the angst in a big way. This story works like that. It also helps that the Hero, although he flies off the handle initially, does stop to think afterwards. Mostly the book is written from Alex's POV, but there are short bits here and there where you get a much needed dose of Jordan's. While I wouldn't say he is one of my fave heroes, he does seem to appreciate Alex... Alex then and Alex now.
Alexandra in a quirky sequence of events saves Jordan's life while dressed as a Medieval Knight. Unfortunately this leaves her compromised and forces Jordan to marry her. She and her romantic teenage heart fall in love with the sexy aristocrat. Jordan's feelings and reasons are a bit more murky. The story also has a mysterious villain who arranges to have the H done away with, but Jordan survives, only to return to London 2 years later on the very day Alex (a supposed widow) is to marry his brother. What led to this marriage was a series of painfully eye opening truths as to Jordan's character and motives. What follows his return is two people pissed off at each other for similar misinformed reasons, trying to wrest control of the situation from the other. I wasn't sure who to cheer for! Then, of course, there is still that evil villain lurking about.

p.s.
Spoiler i just wish we could have seen Jordan snub or stand up for Alex to one of his past OWs. I'm kinda vindictive that way ; )
