It Ends with Us by Colleen Hoover
5.0
I'm probably the last one on bookstagram to jump on the It Ends With Us train, but I was worried that the book wouldn't live up to all the hype. How wrong was I?! Let's be clear... I 100% loved this book and it was worth all the hype and more!
Lily and Atlas as teenagers broke my heart. The kindness Lily showed toward Atlas had me loving them from the beginning of the book and I was gutted when Atlas left, hoping they would somehow find their way back to each other.
The friendship between Lily and Alyssa - pure gold. I love how Alyssa came in to Lily's life and never left. How their friendship became so important and how they supported each other, even when times were tough and Alyssa had to choose between her brother and her best friend. A one in a million friendship right there.
Ryle seemed so perfect... until he wasn't. His storyline was written brilliantly and handled well, even if we did see his uglier side. I liked that Lily gave him a second chance, despite his actions worsening; it happens in reality when promises are made and people are hopeful that things will change. This book gives people the perfect understanding of why it isn't always easy to just walk away from an abusive relationship and what it means to love someone to the point you would forgive them for something you never thought you would forgive.
And I loved that Lily broke the cycle for herself and her daughter. That she made a decision at the most emotional time but kept it and moved on to give her daughter the best possible life. She was such a strong character and I adored her.
I was hooked from the very beginning despite being wary of the hype surrounding this book and I jumped straight into It Starts With Us as I was desperate to read Atlas' point of view... the review for that will be up very soon.
Just keep swimming, readers!
