This served as a reminder that I need to be pickier about the YA I pick up, because this really didn't work for me. I wasn't particularly interested in how the themes of the story were presented, and wanted more subtlety from what I was reading. I also really didn't care for the romance, especially how quickly interest changed. One of the things that breaks a romance for me is a love interest who acts completely different when they're with the protagonist, and that was present in the story. The ways in which Taha related to Imani also felt incredibly superficial (think showing, not telling), and I personally won't ever find physical attraction as the initial spark compelling.
