elizabethb22 's review for:
The Gilded Ones
by Namina Forna
apologies to the book and author for the bad review, i knew i wouldnt like this after i started it but i needed to finish it for a school competition 💔
this book didnt work for me for two main reasons: 1.) the lack of figurative language. there were no metaphors woven into the sentences, not even personification </3 it made the writing feel very, very elementary, not matching the themes of the story. i had to switch to the audiobook because of this, and it actually reads a lot better as one. 2.) the character growth was kind of comical to me. it felt unnatural and rushed, and the majority of it happens off of the page?!?!
i think The Grace Year by Kim Liggett tackles the repression of women in a crazy YA story in a better way than this does
