Angie Cruz’s ability to make characters that feel so real is incredible. She made me hate the antagonist and cry for the protagonist. I finished the book crying for Anna and feeling immensely proud of a fictional person; it’s a book I often find myself coming back to think about what it meant to be so young, to not speak the language, to not have any family, to be Afro-Latina in an anti black culture. Overall a great read
