Hey MTV, welcome to my crib! My name is Eric, and you wouldn’t know this at first but I’m a prince and this is my castle. My mom is a force ghost and my girlfriend is a fish but don’t forget, I’m just a regular guy that just wants adventure in the great wide somewhere.
As little mermaid Lore, this was a fine, fun take on a classic that has been done over so many times. I think Eric in the original movie is so under explored and with every new addition he just keeps getting a new interest. In the Broadway show, he wants to be a little high jackman and dance his heart away, the remake he wants to be an explorer (just like a certain mermaid) and in this take he’s.. ummm… 🤨
Pirate? Curse breaker? Just overall traumatized?
This book was just fine in the long run. Eric has a curse which I think pairs well with the original but everything that has been added for “more Eric content” just doesn’t make sense. Like I’m sorry that boat scene around the 70-80% mark was ridiculous.
If you’re like me and looking to replace that mermaid sized hole in your heart after watching the remake, this is a fun way to spend an afternoon following your childhood crush.
