Painted Devils

Great continuance to book 1. A little more 'spicy' too as we continue to follow emeric and vanya.
Some spoilers ahead...
Vanya is on her journey for self discovery and she seems to be letting her self doubt prevent her from rejoining Emeric. She's still scrappy and using her wits to survive but she's unable to find a way to support herself without resulting to theivery.
She ends up using her wit to start a cult... Accidentally. She does not try to take advantage of them though and just does what she needs to survive and also help the village and it's people along the way...
In the midst of all this it appears she's awoken a low god and needs to appease it when Emeric finds her and the God chooses his as a sacrifice.
In the end they are able to win over this low god and I didn't see the twist in the gods origin story coming!
Overall a great book and I think the amount of romance in this book is just right for me. I also enjoyed that apparently vanya isn't traditionally pretty and has her hangups about it (it seems like most books these days the main female lead is always gorgeous but still feels she's not).
I also enjoy that Emeric and vanya take their time getting to know each other and aren't in a rush to 'do the deed' even though that 'might' save Emeric from the god's wrath.
I honestly hated the ending of this book though, but only because it makes it seem like all of vanyas growth throughout both books was for nothing.... Still I'm looking forward to book 3.
