TLDR: defensive, self pitying, neoliberal white woman who embodies the “i’m not racist, inhave a black friend” mindset is hellbent on making her story the world’s top priority.

i could not stop listening to this! fast-paced, sharp, funny and devastating and revolting and intriguing all at once. on one hand you have the inner workings of the publishing industry and its corruption; on the other hand you have nuanced discussions of racism, colorism, privilege, power/success, ambition, grief, and censorship. it’s not my usual style of book but i was hooked beginning to end and can’t wait to read more by RF Kuang just for her writing style.
