Everything hurts after reading this book. My emotional state is in shambles. This book gives us an in-depth and horrifying look into the childhood of Lizzie Young, a character who has been contentious throughout the Boys of Tommen series. Getting a look into her head, realizing the reason behind her behavior, was truly heartbreaking and made me regret every bad thought I had about her. What hurts the most is that she is so isolated that no one believes her, and it truly seems she is a product of how she was treated for her entire life.

Her and Hugh's relationship was so beautiful from the start, a friendship and mutual understanding that blossomed into so much more. I think that is why the ending gutted me so much, it almost hurt to read despite knowing from the start that was how it was going to end. I am curious to see how Chloe will continue and wrap up their story in the sequel. One thing I dislike about Chloe's writing is that she often rewrites the plot of books she's already written to fit the current story. I fear that, given the next book has caught up to the current timeline of the Boys of Tommen series, we'll see a lot of this. Nonetheless, I will be seated and eagerly awaiting the next installment.
