I’m not the biggest fan of second-chance romances because it’s really hard to do them justice, but Miss Tia Williams did it.

Shane and Eva meet in high school and neither has had an easy nor stable childhood, so when they meet it’s like a perfect storm. The seven days they spend together they enable each other's worst habits, and it all culminates in a near-death experience that completely changes the course of both of their lives. Fifteen years have passed after that initial meeting. Eva is divorced and a single mother and Shane has managed to get clean and sober and both of them are successful authors that have managed to avoid each other even though they hang around in the same literary circles. Seven days before both of them are set to attend the Black Literary Excellence Awards, where both of them have been nominated, they meet once more.

When they see each other again there are a lot of emotions and a long-overdue conversation to be had. It was great to see that even though both of them were scared of that conversation, they communicated, and it was like no time had passed. Eva and Shane get each other in a way that no one else does and even after all those years, the connection and the chemistry are still there. Eva really wants to give love another chance and be the first woman in her family to break the cycle and be with someone that supports her and loves her for her. She doesn’t want to have to change and dim her light for someone else. Shane has done a lot of work on himself throughout the years to build himself up not only to be the man Eva deserves but to recognize that he is deserving of love and good in his life. Watching how their relationship heals and develops throughout those seven days was wonderful.

This was a great book. Reading about people overcoming trauma and tragedy is always special. Read this book. It was amazing, just do it!
