This tale is gripping and heartbreaking. I knew very little about North Korea prior to reading this; now, I'm amazed that the world turns a blind eye to the atrocities being committed there as a matter of course. Shin's tale- the conditions of his life in prison, the abuse and torture he suffered, the desperation, and even his escape- will stay with me for a long time.
