I really wanted to like this and I pushed through to about 76%, but I had to stop. I didn’t care enough about the characters to keep going. Also there were so many characters and place names to keep straight I spent most of my time just trying to figure who was who and why it mattered. Major events and reveals would happen and just fall flat with no real impact.

The writing was often good with fun turns of phrase and good imagery, but it wasn’t enough crumbs to keep me reading.

I’m disappointed because this is an illumicrate book I’m about to receive. Plus, I’m always looking to read good Egyptian and Arabic inspired books and the last few I’ve read have been mid at best.
