This book is clearly written for young adult readers, and although the premise was intriguing, I found it a little formulaic and predictable. I had the big plot twist figured out well before the end, but before that, it was a fairly enjoyable read. The action is well-written and fast-paced, the main character, Emika, was interesting and somewhat complex. However, the plot is, by now, fairly standard if you read science fiction or watch it on TV or at the movies, and the supporting characters are all pretty one-dimensional. I was glad to see that a relationship between two male characters was treated as a normal, completely non-remarkable, everyday thing. However, there is some fairly racy, though not overtly graphic sexual (or maybe "sensual" is the right term) content. It didn't bother me, but it did keep me from letting my 11-year-old, advanced-reader daughter from reading the book.

Overall, I think this book would be enjoyed more by someone in the age group for which it was written. It is an imaginative, well-written, fast-paced thriller that just didn't do it for me, plot or character-development-wise, probably because of my age.
